These range from creations made for their kids, items to memorialize lost loved ones, and just creations made for the love of working with their own two hands. They aren’t just little projects to fill the hours — they’re legacies, lessons, and stories of love told with wood.

If you’re looking for Father’s Day wood craft ideas, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here, whether you’re a dad, crafting with your dad, or honoring one.

9 Father’s Day wood crafts by Woodpeckers dads

1. CNC-cut play kitchen

CNC-cut play kitchen

Scott is a proud dad who built something truly magical for his daughter Lily’s second birthday: a handcrafted wooden play kitchen. This play kitchen was cut with precision on Scott’s CNC and assembled using wood dowels from Woodpeckers. We already loved the project on its own, but it gets even better; the standout feature is a fun cat-shaped range hood, a loving nod to Lily’s obsession with cats! Flip it up and you’ll find hidden storage inside, a surprise Scott added just for fun.

Scott told us it’s one of his proudest projects as a dad, and we can see why. This Father’s Day, his creativity reminds us that more often than not, the best gifts are made, not bought. Just look at the smile on Lily’s face!

2. Mini hauler built to honor a legacy

Mini hauler built to honor a legacy

This touching wooden mini hauler was built by Holly whose inspiration came from a late father, the man who first introduced Holly to woodworking. Though he passed six years before this project came to life, their bond, through sawdust and sanding, will live on for years to come.

This build isn’t just a cool car hauler — it’s a tribute. A reminder that woodworking isn’t only about measuring and cutting, but also about connection and memory. It shows how building with wood can also build bridges across generations!

3. Mosaic journey of art, recovery, and the power of creating

Mosaic journey of art, recovery, and the power of creating

For Sheldon, woodworking and creating aren’t just hobbies. They’re healing activities. A father, teacher, and artist in recovery, Sheldon found purpose and peace through the act of making art. Nine years into his recovery journey, he now teaches expressive arts and mosaic classes at a mental health and substance abuse center, helping others tap into their creativity as a path to growth.

Inspired by his mom to explore mosaics, Sheldon’s passion grew into something bigger than himself. He now combines his love for tattoo-style art with vibrant mosaic pieces built on quality plywood from Woodpeckers — a material he’s used since day one. His latest piece, made for a Louis Wain tribute show, is a vivid tribute to a fellow artist who battled mental illness while creating extraordinary works. This Father’s Day, Sheldon reminds us that crafting can be so much more than a pastime. It can be a lifeline and an invitation to others to keep creating.

4. Cork trays to toast retirement

Cork trays to toast retirement

Greg may be semi-retired, but his creativity is still working full time! At 66, he’s proving that woodworking is something you never outgrow. One of his favorite recent projects? A series of rustic, wine-inspired cork trays that show off both craftsmanship and personality.

Using unfinished wood trays from Woodpeckers, Greg stained the wood, arranged corks into distinct patterns, and sealed each tray with custom-cut glass. The result is a functional piece that’s also a great conversation starter. He’s already sold most of his creations, but he still has a few left for himself — and it’s easy to see why!

5. Nostalgic wooden car collection

Nostalgic wooden car collection

Steve’s wooden vehicles may look like old-school toys at first glance, but they’re really handcrafted tributes to memory, imagination, and a lifelong love of building. He started designing wooden cars right after college in the early 1980s, making them as gifts for family and friends. Although his career in computers paused his woodworking for a while, retirement gave Steve the perfect excuse to dust off the tools and get back to what he loves.

Using scrap lumber from construction sites, Steve now crafts realistic replicas of classic vehicles. He even invites clients to tell him about their first or favorite car so that he can bring it to life in wood! His attention to detail is undeniable, and he credits the wooden wheels he gets from Woodpeckers for adding the final touch of realism that makes each piece shine.

6. Multi-purpose crate for fur babies

Multi-purpose crate for fur babies

This custom crate build by Bob, proves that good design isn’t just for humans. Built for a pack of very lucky pups, this piece combines functionality with furniture-quality craftsmanship. The top surface serves as a console or sideboard, while the bottom houses spacious dens for three dogs — each with their own cozy bed and secure, ventilated door.

With a sleek two-tone finish and smart use of space, this is the kind of woodworking project that solves real-life needs while enhancing the home. It’s also a clear reflection of a father’s instinct to take care of the whole family — including the four-legged members!

7. Mini wooden semi truck

Some projects take a few hours. Others take a decade. This beautifully finished piece by Terry, was started 10 years ago and finally reached completion, showing the true spirit of perseverance, craftsmanship, and the satisfaction that comes from seeing a long-term project through to the end.

As a retired carpenter, the creator of this piece finds joy in working with wood, whether it’s cabinetry, small furniture, or miniature wooden semi trucks like this one! The years between starting and finishing this project don’t diminish its value. In fact, they add to the story, making the final product even more meaningful.

8. Quarter-scale race boat

This ¼ scale Crackerbox race boat reflects a true and steadfast passion for wood crafting! Outfitted with twin brushless motors and CNC aluminum props, this sleek, handcrafted machine was built by Ted, a self-described “crafty old man” who finds happiness in the creative process. After years in the making, the major construction is finally done, and he’s just waiting on a delivery of Baltic birch from Woodpeckers to add the final touches.

9. Backyard miniature railroad and tribute

Allen, a lifelong G-scale train enthusiast from Ukiah, California, has turned his backyard into a detailed and dynamic railroad world — complete with bridges, buildings, trestles, and even a sawmill. Over the last two months alone, he’s constructed three trestles, a stock yard, and an impressive sawmill using Woodpeckers’ materials.

Though Allen isn’t a father himself, his passion for crafting and trains is deeply tied to his own dad, who passed away in 2018. Each structure he builds is a tribute, in some way, to the memories and inspiration passed down through generations. There’s something timeless about watching a miniature train wind through handcrafted wooden trestles, especially when those structures are built with such care and precision.
